You can't be too cynical
No matter how cynical you are, you're not nearly cynical enough!

Happy New Year

Let us all hope 2011 brings some sense to those who believe they rightfully rule over us.

You are much, much deeper in $$DEBT$$ than you were when the Tea Party movement started.

Four questions, from American Thinker:

1. What is total spending of the federal budget?
2. What is the federal deficit?
3. What is the national debt?
4. What was the most recent interest payment on the national debt?

The answers:

1.  $3.6 Trillion!

2.  Officially projected at $1.2 Trillion (but sure to be higher).

3.  $13.878 Trillion as I write this.  Soon to pass the debt limit of about $14.2 Trillion.

4.  $164 Billion.  But that's at a %1.5 interest rate.  If that goes up to say, 6%?  It'll be $840 Billion.  That's a bailout--just to pay the interest!

Make a resolution for the New Year:  Keep the pressure on those who fancy themselves our masters.

You -- yes, I mean you! -- are drowning in debt

The Congress allocates the money not the President.  He just spends what they give him.  In just two years, the 111th Congress took out a loan in your name and borrowed $10,429.64

That's on top of what they'd already borrowed in your name.

You are now on the hook for $44,886.57.   So is every one of your loved ones and that bum on the street corner.  You may be certain that the bum will not be paying his share, so you'll be paying part of his, too.

These bastards spent more than the first 100 congresses combined

The linked article notes that Nancy Pelosi promised:

"After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: Pay as you go, no new deficit spending,” she said in an address from the speaker’s podium. “Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt."

Yeah, right.   Sound familiar?  You just heard the same thing from those we just elected.

One of the first things the new Congress will be pressured to do is raise the debt ceiling.  I say "NO!"  The longer the madness goes on, the harder it is to stop because stopping it will be ever more painful.

Stop it NOW.

Quico, I'm talking to YOU!

All Those Evil, EVIL Guns!

I loved this reminder:

Why the Terrorists Can Never Win

The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That’s great. There were over 600,000 hunters.

Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world – more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined – deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay.

But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan’s 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world.

Indeed.  Americans enjoy the right of being armed.  That's one way that some of us have remained as citizens, not subjects.

"Oh, but there are no more wild Indians, and such!  The need for guns is gone!" the lily-livered liberal gun-grabbers say.  Do not believe their BULL!

TSA will feel you -- or else!

Doesn't matter if you're a victim of rape.  Doesn't matter.  If you have a pacemaker--ACHTUNG!--you will get your boobs "felt up."  Or else . . .

"I can't go through because I have the equivalent of a pacemaker in me," she said.

Hirschkind said because of the device in her body, she was led to a female TSA employee and three Austin police officers. She says she was told she was going to be patted down.

"I turned to the police officer and said, 'I have given no due cause to give up my constitutional rights. You can wand me,'" and they said, 'No, you have to do this,'" she said.

Hirschkind agreed to the pat down, but on one condition.

"I told them, 'No, I'm not going to have my breasts felt,' and she said, 'Yes, you are,'" said Hirschkind.

When Hirschkind refused, she says that "the police actually pushed me to the floor, (and) handcuffed me. I was crying by then. They drug me 25 yards across the floor in front of the whole security."

You think you have rights!?!  HAH!  You have only the "rights" that those in charge there at the time decide you have.

An ABIA spokesman says it is TSA policy that anyone activating a security alarm has two options. One is to opt out and not fly, and the other option is to subject themselves to an enhanced pat down. Hirschkind refused both and was arrested.

That doesn't match my recollection of loudly stated TSA policy . . . Ah, HERE IT IS:

CHOICE C:  A third option?  There are no other options!  TSA says "...once a passenger enters the security area, there is a legal obligation to follow through with the process."  http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/nov/15/tsa-probe-scan-resistor/  Refusing means an $11,000 fine.  This has already been litigated, back in 2007: http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/datastore/opinions/2007/08/10/0410226.pdf

Yeah, the government (and the "news" media) have NO PROBLEM telling you lies.  Yes, TSA lies and as a subject (not a citizen) there is nothing you can do about it!

The $2.1 Trillion Deficit

Does this grab you?

THE HIDDEN DEFICIT
If corporate accountants used government rules for their financial statements, they'd be jailed. That's why we rarely see the real number of the federal deficit-a terrifying $2.1 trillion last year.

Aren't you glad the liberals have been in charge?  We have been so lucky!

Senator (Thank God He Is NOT President) Kerry Lies Again!

They just HAD to rush the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) through the Senate.  Why?  Because given time, people would have found out how badly Obama sold us out in time to stop it!

Sen. John Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat who has been leading the fight for ratification, said during floor debate that the treaty's preamble is "a component of the treaty that has no legal, binding impact whatsoever."

Moscow apparently has a different view of the preamble.

ITAR-Tass, the main Russian government information agency, reported last week: "The treaty will have a legally binding provision on the link between strategic offensive and defensive weapons and will affirm the increasing importance of this link amid the reduction of strategic offensive weapons."

Several Republican-authored amendments to the treaty that sought to alter the preamble were voted down, based in part on assertions that the preamble had no legal standing.

The next time you're buying ketchup & such, remember that Sen. Kerry is married to Teresa HEINZ Kerry....

The Fun is Just Beginning!

Intersting news from Michigan:

Republicans will largely control the redistricting process in Michigan next year, and Democratic Reps. Sander Levin and John Dingell could suffer the fallout.

Given the big gains on the state level Republicans made last month, the single House seat the state must shed could come at the expense of one of the delegation's senior Democrats.

It'll be even more fun here in Texas, where the Republicans have a super-majority and FOUR NEW seats to play with.

Yep, fun times ahead!

Global warming get over-hyped much, or what?

Drudge has a great juxtaposition.  Let's compare!

March 2000:

Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past

Global warming, the heating of the atmosphere by increased amounts of industrial gases, is now accepted as a reality by the international community. Average temperatures in Britain were nearly 0.6°C higher in the Nineties than in 1960-90, and it is estimated that they will increase by 0.2C every decade over the coming century. Eight of the 10 hottest years on record occurred in the Nineties.

However, the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become "a very rare and exciting event".

"Children just aren't going to know what snow is," he said.

[Note that they quote a guy from East  Anglia...famous for the "Hide the Decline" emails....]

Yep-- we should certainly destroy our economy to reduce Greenhouse emissions!  Why those poor British children, roasting in the sun by Christmas 2010:

Coldest December since records began as temperatures plummet to minus 10C bringing travel chaos across Britain

Swathes of Britain skidded to a halt today as the big freeze returned - grounding flights, closing rail links and leaving traffic at a standstill.

And tonight the nation was braced for another 10in of snow and yet more sub-zero temperatures - with no let-up in the bitterly cold weather for at least a month, forecasters have warned.

The Arctic conditions are set to last through the Christmas and New Year bank holidays and beyond and as temperatures plummeted to -10c (14f) the Met Office said this December was ‘almost certain’ to become the coldest since records began in 1910.

From this scam, Al Gore made millions. Suckers!

A (Joking) Defense of Incestuous Line Marriage

For those who are not familiar with Heinlein's use of it:  "Line marriage is a form of group marriage found in fiction in which the family unit continues to add new spouses of both sexes over time so that the marriage does not end."

If any two adults who love each other and want to form a family should be able to get married, why not any number of people?  There can be advantages for children.  The chance of all adults in a group marriage of ten people all dying at once are slim.  No orphans!

If any two adults who love each other and want to form a family should be able to get married, why not a adult man and his father (or an adult woman and her mother), or even an adult woman and her father?

Whey not a combination of the above?  Why can't adult children all marry each other and their parents?

Here's where I'm going with this:  Think of the tax implications!  No death tax!  It'd drive Democrats over the cliff.  It'd be like President Sarah Palin leading the prayer at the National Cathedral for the state wedding of Secretary of State Rush Limbaugh and Supreme Court Justice Ann Coulter.  Their heads would explode.

(evil grin)

Thank God the Thing is Dead!
Using the database found here (http://coburn.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2010/12/list-of-earmarks-included-in-the-omnibus-spending-bill) I totaled up the earmarks for my Representative and Senators in the spending Bill Harry Reid tried to pawn off on us. Not good.

Rodriguez: $20,768,000

Cornyn: $9,387,000

Hutchison: $106,973,000 (!!)

Note: Some of this is double, counted, from when both Hutchison & Rodriquez request something, etc. Together, they requested $2.4M for San Antonio's bus system, for instance. Why federal money should be used on San Antonio buses, I don't know (beyond the obivious "Gimme, gimme, gimme, while someone else pays!" motive).

OK, so Rodriguez lost the election, and he's like a tenant getting evicted--determined to take anything of value he can, no matter the damage it causes. That's to be expected of his sort (Democrats).

But the senators? Cornyn is bad, but Hutchison must be out of her mind! Who can we find to run against her in the primary?

Thank You, Hugh Hewitt (and an Army of Davids)

This afternoon, Hugh had on Senator Orin Hatch, to talk about "The Deal" and other issues.  Lord, I should not get so angry when I'm driving!  But Senator Hatch just DOES NOT "get it."  He defended "The Deal" and then said

What I tell you, what I’m telling you is I’ve been here long enough to know how this Congress works. I’ve been here for all these years without a fiscal conservative majority. And I’ve got to tell you, if we allowed that to happen, we’ll never get these tax rates done. And we will not win on this 87% or 88% of this battle that I think we’re going to win. And we can’t let the desire for protection be the enemy of the good here. [Emphasis added.]

Defending and tolerating the [this is] "How this Congress works" attitude, with the old-bull, go-along-to-get-along and let's-make-a-deal shenanigans is NOT going to solve our problems.  Delay them?  Maybe.  Make them worse in the long run?  Definitely!  He just doesn't get that.  He wants too make deals, play nice, and not stand up.

Sorry--but Senator "34 years" Hatch may need replacing.

Meanwhile, just saw that Instapundit's report about the $1.1 trillion spending bill being yanked from the floor of the Senate.  See what can happen when you stand up and stand together?  One hope "they" will learn.

The Voyager Spacecraft is STILL Making News

Launched when I was young, back in 1977, Voyager 1 is the fasted machine ever created by man.  It's booking along at 17 kilometers per second! And it has finally reached the zone where the solar wind is . . . not really there anymore.  It's about to officially leave the solar system and enter interstellar space:

For now, Voyager 1 is 17.4 billion kilometers (10.8 billion miles) from the Sun in "an area where the velocity of the hot ionized gas, or plasma, emanating directly outward from the sun has slowed to zero," the space agency said.

"Scientists suspect the solar wind has been turned sideways by the pressure from the interstellar wind in the region between stars."

NASA noticed that the solar wind's outward speed had slowed to zero back in June, but wanted to look at readings from Voyager 1 over the next four months to be sure.

Let's just hope it doesn't drop into a passing wormhole, get fixed up by aliens, call itself "Vee-ger," and then come roaring back to threaten us all.

Get a Haircut, Hipppie!

Dan Surber asks a trenchant question of Josh Marshall (no link for this ding-dong):

Can the government tell you to get a haircut, hippie?

Indeed a good question.  If they could tell you you must buy health insurance because it's an economic activity, where does it end?

Haircuts are economic activity.  So is eating out once a week.  What about buying a new car--from "Government Motors," of course?  (Can't remember who said that one,  Randy Barnett or Instapundit, maybe?)  Hey, owning or renting a minimum number of square feet per family member involves the economy.  And broccoli!  The poor broccoli growers need business too!  Besides, it's good for you.

And motorcycles.  Damned Death Traps!  But they produce donors for organ transplants (for which doctors get paid).  You have to ride a motorbike to work  at least once a week, Bubba!  Cold?  Too bad!

Where does it end?  When we throw these bastards out, and clean up the judiciary.

Comfort Food!

Man, how I love "SOS."  You know:  "s^^t on a shingle" -- Creamed chipped beef on toast.

Dr. Pournelle posted a link to the Manual for Army Cooks from 1910.  On page 72:

251. Beef, chipped (for 60 men).

Ingredients used:
15 pounds chipped beef.
1 pound fat, butter preferred.
1-1/4 pounds flour, browned in fat.
2 12-ounce cans evaporated milk.
1 bunch parsley.
1/4 ounce pepper.
6 quarts beef stock.

Melt the fat in the pan, and add the flour; when it has cooked a few minutes, add the milk, dissolved in the beef stock, or water. Stir the batter in slowly to prevent lumping, and then add the beef. Cook a few minutes, add the parsley, and serve on toast.

If the beef is very salty, it should be scalded before cooking.

Sure, it's bad for you.  But yum yum yum!

Guys Called Mo

Too many of the most violent problems we face are due to a guy named "Mo," as in Mohhamed, Muhhamed, Mohamad, etd.  As Michelle put it concerning the guy they just arrested:  Rhymes with “Zohammed.”

Then there's act that guys named "Mo" would like to do if they thought of it.  Maybe this was a "Mo," maybe it wasn't.  But if it wasn't, "Mo" is smiling and wishing he'd thought of it:

Were anti-Christians behind pilgrimage site attack? 2,000-year-old Holy Thorn Tree of Glastonbury is cut down

Standing proudly on the side of an English hill, its religious roots go back 2,000 years. But a single night of vandalism has left an ancient site of pilgrimage in splinters.

The Holy Thorn Tree of Glastonbury has been chopped down in what is being seen by some as a deliberately anti-Christian act.

A feature of the skyline surrounding the Somerset town, the tree has been visited by thousands retracing the steps said to have been taken by Joseph of Arimathea, who some say was Jesus' great uncle.

Yep, many a "Mo" is smiling in Britain.

The Republicans CAVED AGAIN!

This "deal" President Obama is supporting/bemoaning is NOT GOOD for America.

Are they out of their minds?

There was growing concern in Washington Tuesday that President Obama's tax cut deal would add roughly $900 billion to the federal budget deficit and national debt.

http://dailycaller.com/2010/12/07/concern-spreads-about-tax-cut-deals-900-billion-addition-to-deficit-and-debt/#ixzz17YXmdZWa

YES, they are out of their minds!

The Republicans just won--and won BIG--on a promise to STOP THE SPENDING.  Hugh Hewitt points out that this violates more than one promise from the Pledge to America:

On September 23, all of the House GOP leadership agreed to the Pledge to America at the Tart Lumber store in Sterling Virginia (picture below). Among the Pledge's many explicit guarantees:

Permanently Stop All Job-Killing Tax Hikes (p.16)

Act Immediately to Reduce Spending (p.21)

Cut Government Spending to Pre-Stimulus, Pre-Bailout Levels (p.21)

Read the Bill (p.33)

Advance Legislative Issues One at a Time (p.33)

The "deal" threatens to undo the "pledge" on these four counts before the new Congress is even seated. If that happens, what sort of credibility will the new GOP majority have?

Credibility?  In the District of Corruption?  Hah!

Memo to the Republicans:  We sent you there top stop the madness, not cut a deal to keep it going.  The 2012 primaries are not that far off....  Remember:  It's The Debt, Stupid!

Ground Zero Mosque wants $5 Million from 9/11 redevopment fund

Check out this, even if it's "again": What Does ONE TRILLION DOLLARS look like?

Now, many of you might have missed this link on the bottom: What Does the US NATIONAL DEBT look like?

OOPS!  That was the debt in 2009, when it was "just" $11 Trillion.  The debt today is $13.8T and rising fast.  So, in that last picture, they're just about to finish SIX ROWS on top!  That makes that pile just short of 100 feet high.

Last night, Kevin Wall on KTSA was discussing the choice of raising the debt ceiling in February, or "shutting down the government."  Tough choice!

But that pile of debt just keeps getting bigger if we raise the debt ceiling.

We must stop deficit spending NOW.  It will hurt.  A lot.  But like with cancer, every day you wait means it will hurt you more when you finally do act.  We are already overdue.
