Thank you for visiting!
This is no longer The San Antonio Tea Party's home (it was once, and then it wasn't, and then once again it was, and now once again it's not).  The San Antonio Tea Party now lives at http://www.sanantonioteaparty.us/ This is now just the blog of little old me.     Robin Juhl, Past Chairman of SATP, proprietor (Webmaster@TheyThinkYouAreStupid.com)

The San Antonio Tea Party holds it's big meetings about every other month, usually on the first Sunday, at Pedrotti's North Wind Ranch, 13715 FM 1560 N, Helotes, 78023 (Click here for a map). Keep an eye HERE or the SATP calendar for updates!  Consider also attending a neighborhood group--that's where the action is!

Concerning Christian/Conservatives & Ron Paul Supporters

(Portions moved from above.  I wrote this concerning the debate watching party Nadia had organized....)

Some on the Christian/Conservative side of the Tea Party movement look upon forlks like Nadia with suspicion because they are (gasp!) "Ron Paul people." SO? Do we all have to agree on everything? No! Sure, I have my differences with the one man in Congress whom I'm sure isn't corrupt. Just because the "Paulites" like Nadia support him and agree with more of his platform than we do doesn't make then bad, nor a liability.

Look at what Nadia's doing here: ORGANIZING an event and MAKING things happen. Good things. God Bless her and her efforts! You think other things need doing? Turn off "The Game," get off that easy chair and go make it happen. That's what she's doing -- with energy and a smile.

Proposing SATP's Next "Lord Voldemort"

(Moved from above (Humor, even!))

Most of you probably have heard the phrase "He Who Must Not Be Named." For most, it's a Harry Potter reference. Inside the old SATP leadership, it had a different meaning. It referred to a certain persona non grata (that's Latin for "an unwelcome person.")

Well, we have new leadership, and we certainly have a new persona non grata. Thus, in the spirit of fun & humor, I humbly suggest using "He Who Must Not Be Named" to refer to that person (who remains carefully unnamed).

Confused yet? If you cannot figure out who "He Who Must Not Be Named" is, you're just going to have to ask around, 'cause I ain't telling. Consider this a challenge and an exercise in getting more closely integrated into the new and (vastly) improved SATP!

Unless you're "He Who Must Not Be Named," of course....

The New Board

(Moved from above (& edited a bit))

Missed Sunday's meeting because I had a sudden TDY (temporary duty yonder) in Washington, District of  Corruption. THEY INTRODUCED THE NEW BOARD!

Congrats, folks! Thanks so much for stepping up to the plate. When we first set up The San Antonio Tea Party, Inc., we did have some problems: Were a bit rushed; Most of us had never run such an organization before; we may have "chosen unwisely"concerning some of the board members (yes, in some folk's opinions, that would mean my presence was a mistake); The board was too small and critical assets were held captive by a single member. This board does not have these problems!

You had a problem with me saying we had to unite behind my successor? Fair enough; you had your reasons. You should have no such reservations with getting together behind this fine group.

These IDIOTS Tried to "Bug" a U.S. Senator's Phone? (update: NO!)

Sometimes, the depths of human stupidity rise up and smite the guilty and the innocent alike.

Remember the "ACORN Videos?"  Well, the "pimp," James O'Keefe, was arrested with three other guys who are accused of trying to bug Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in downtown New Orleans.

Wearing a camera is one thing.  Bugging someone's phone without a warrantis a F*E*L*O*N*Y!  It's a felony for a good reason:  It's WRONG.

If they did this, they belong in jail.  If O'Keefe did this we must disown him.

UPDATE: Turns out the Lilly-Livered, Leaft-Leaning, Lenin-Loving Liberal Liars in the press LIED AGAIN.  That was not the charge!

My apologies for believing the trash we now call "news."

Who IS "Ellie Light?"

(moved from above)

Patterico is tracking an interesting phenomenon:  the exact same "letter to the editor" appearing in multiple papers. Sometime it has different names as the "author," but at other times the same person is the "author" (often claiming to be a local in many cities and states at the same time.  Has OUR paper been suckered yet?

ANYBODY BUT MCCAIN!

(Moved from above)

Where might the Tea Party really give a whack to one of the Republican "Insiders?"

PHOENIX (AP) -- Former Arizona Congressman J.D. Hayworth says he is planning to run against John McCain for his U.S. Senate seat.

Hayworth, a Republican, told The Associated Press late Friday he stepped down as host of his radio program on KFYI-AM, a conservative radio talk show in Phoenix. Legally, he would not have been able to remain host of the program and be an active candidate.

Yeah, Sarah Palin is campaigning for McCain.  Shows she feels a sense of obligation to him, I guess, and I don't discredit her for that.  But McCain needs to go!  This "Maverick" is only maverick-y when he's doing crap like "McCain-Feingold" and throwing conservatism under the bus.

The New Board is Seated!

(Copied from above and expanded)

A Message from Jon Kaplan:

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INFORMAL MEETING OF SAN ANTONIO TEA PARTY PATRIOTS

When: Sunday, 1/24/10 from 3-5PM

Where: The Magic Time Machine at 902 NE Loop 410, San Antonio, Tx.

Why: To introduce the new board nominees; to return the attached Survey; to celebrate the victory of Scott Brown in Massachusetts(if it has happened); to meet several of the candidates for Congress in the Districts 20, 21, 23, and 28; to volunteer for Tiger Teams; to announce the CPA review in progress; to hear Joe Ware on the Constitution; and to regenerate the spirit and momentum of the San Antonio Tea Party.

The Agenda is HERE (Microsoft Word document).
(UPDATE -- CONFIRMED!  THEY ARE INTRODUCING THE NEW BOARD!)

The Survey is HERE (Microsoft Word document).  You should print it out, complete it, and bring with you.

You helped put Senator Elect Scott Brown in "Ted Kennedy's Seat."  Now the real work starts!

Update:  I'm serious about that last bit.  Yes, "we" (the Tea Party movement) have killed the takeover of health care and probably the "Cap and Trade" nonsense. Don't get cocky.  Hillary care was killed at the start of the Clinton's first term.  That swept in the Republicans under Newt who then forced fiscal sanity . . . and Clinton got a second term!  Eventually, the Republicans went native and joined in the spending spree.   Wheeeeee -- Other People's Money! Bringing home the bacon is fun!  What two-term pledge?

Be very careful who you send to congress!  We have to work hard to get the right people elected, not just "Anybody but these turkeys!"  Just having an "R" or an "L" next to their name on the ballot is no guarantee.  Pay attention in the primary.  Get the right nominee.  Get her or him elected.  The WATCH THEM LIKE A HAWK!  That's a long term commitment.

Democrats propose $1.9T increase in debt limit

They really are taking the results of the recent election to heart, eh?

 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100120/ap_on_bi_ge/us_congress_debt_limit_11

WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats on Wednesday proposed allowing the federal government to borrow an additional $1.9 trillion to pay its bills, a record increase that would permit the national debt to reach $14.3 trillion.

Support Scott Brown in Massachusetts

(Moved from above)

(Unlike SATP, your Humble Host can take a side.)  It's not too late to jump on the bandwagon in the election race for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts. Scott Brown's campaign website is here.  The election is Tuesday -- if you plan to give, give NOW!

UPDATE -- BETTER YET, MAKE SOME CALLS, TOO!  Here's what a trusted friend writes:
Hi Robin, If you feel so inclined, since your website can be partisan versus SATP, would you post a blurb reminding viewers that the Massachusetts Senatorial election is Tuesday and that it is essential that as many "Calls from Home" as can be accomplished occur today and tomorrow.

Go to Scott Brown's website: www.brownforussenate.com and click on the Call from Home button in the middle of the home page. You will have to create a log in that allows you to call Massachusetts independents (They give you the names, phone numbers and script) to get them to vote for Scott Brown. If you have an unlimited long distance calling plan, the program dials the number and calls you so you can make your plea. I have called 20 or so and it is easy. If Brown is elected on January 19th, the dems lose their 60th vote and maybe we kill the healthcare bill.

  • Kay Bailey Hutchison did the best in terms of making her points

The Massachusetts Special Election

(copied from above)

A message from SATP (if you didn't get this, get over there and sign up for their email list!):

There is a very important election campaign for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts to fill the seat of Ted Kennedy, which will be  held on January 19th.  The Democrat candidate is current state attorney general, Martha Coakley.  The Republican candidate is current state legislator, Scott Brown.  The election of a Republican candidate in this race would break the 60-vote Democrat majority in the Senate.

As we all have discussed, the San Antonio Tea Party is non-partisan.  We do not endorse a particular candidate or a party - however, we do encourage all citizens to be informed regarding the issues and to consider carefully the positions of candidates for public office.  For Tea Party supporters who have an interest in this particular election, Martha Coakley's website is here. Scott Brown's campaign website is here.

Both candidates' websites are accepting donations, and the services of volunteers. Please consider donating to the limits of your generosity, and volunteering for the candidate whom you would think would do the best  for their constituency by their actions in the US Senate  - and by extension, would do the very best for the citizens of this country at large.

Both the National Democratic Party, and the Republican Party recognize how critical this election is.   Tell everyone you know  in the SATP and elsewhere who feels similarly to research the candidates - and make an educated choice.

THIS NOTICE IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT BY THE SAN ANTONIO TEA PARTY OF ANY CANDIDATE OR PARTY.  IT IS MADE AS A PUBLIC SERVICE TO ENCOURAGE CITIZENS TO GET INVOLVED IN THE ELECTIVE PROCESS AS THEY SEE FIT.

The Special Election is 19 January -- So hurry on over if you intend to support someone!

(Update:  You know who to support, right?  Don't blast SATP -- they HAVE to stay neutral!)

Tea Party Patriots' Official Statement on Dale Robertson

I agree with their position....

"It has been brought to our attention that an individual named Dale Robertson is claiming to be the 'founder' of the tea party movement. A number of stories on the web carry a picture of Mr. Robertson holding a sign that uses offensive, racist language. Tea Party Patriots wishes to make clear that our organization has never had any association with Mr. Robertson, and that we stand firmly against any expression of racism and the kind of language and opinion expressed in his sign. Mr. Robertson does not speak for Tea Party Patriots, Inc. or for the millions of Tea Party Patriots across the country working to return the nation to its constitutional foundation." Reason.com on the Chicago Gun Case
See Laboratories of Repression at Reason.com, which examines one of Chicago's key arguments.  It opens with this:
In 1932, progressive Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis penned one of the most famous passages in American jurisprudence. “It is one of the happy incidents of the federal system,” Brandeis wrote in his dissent in New State Ice Co. v. Liebmann, “that a single courageous State may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory, and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country.”

Since then, Brandeis’ famous words have been quoted or referenced countless times, appearing everywhere from legal documents to campaign speeches. Most recently, they surfaced in the arguments leading up to the landmark Second Amendment case McDonald v. Chicago, which the Supreme Court is set to hear in early March 2010.

Near the end, he sums it up:
Which brings us back to the Chicago gun case. The Windy City would like to “serve as a laboratory” with the “flexibility” to ignore the Second Amendment. But there’s nothing “novel” about that. It’s just another case of the government violating our rights. And since the Supreme Court would never let Chicago ban free speech, establish an official religion, or conduct other “experiments” on the First Amendment, why should the Second Amendment receive any less respect?
Indeed!

The Debt Star

Best version of this one that I've seen.

debt-star-2.jpg

Saw it in an interesting Ed Driscoll post that includes this:

The idea is simple: If enough people who have money in one of the big four banks move it into smaller, more local, more traditional community banks, then collectively we, the people, will have taken a big step toward re-rigging the financial system so it becomes again the productive, stable engine for growth it's meant to be. It's neither Left nor Right - it's populism at its best. Consider it a withdrawal tax on the big banks for the negative service they provide by consistently ignoring the public interest. It's time for Americans to move their money out of these reckless behemoths. And you don't have to worry, there is zero risk: deposit insurance is just as good at small banks - and unlike the big banks they don't provide the toxic dividend of derivatives trading in a heads-they-win, tails-we-lose fashion.

Hmm....

White 1995 Oldsmobile Delta-88 with AZ license plate AGZ4214

UPDATE:  They found the car.  Now, let's hope they find the child....

Watch for this car!  It's probably somewhere in San Antonio.  Also "probably somewhere in San Antonio" is the 8-month old child of a friend's friend.  You may already heard of this case, it's in the news.  The mom stole the kid and was later picked up in Florida, sans child.  Turns out she was here for a while, but she's not talking.

New Hampshire Proposes a State Sovereignty Law With A Twist

Like several other states, New Hampshire will soon consider a law that exempts guns made in that state from Federal firearms laws (which regulation is based on the Congress having the authority to regulate commerce between the states.  Not crossing a state line?  Get lost, Congress!)  But New Hampshire House Bill 1285 would have a GREAT little kicker, according to Examiner.com:

Any official, agent, or employee of the government of the United States, or employee of a corporation providing services to the government of the United States that enforces or attempts to enforce a act, order, law, statute, rule or regulation of the government of the United States upon a personal firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition that is manufactured commercially or privately in New Hampshire and that remains within the State of New Hampshire shall be guilty of a class B felony.

  •        A Message from Jon Kaplan:
Dr. Kris Held and Dr. Jane Hughes(A member of the Health Care Tiger Team) are involved with www.usahealthalert.org. The Physician pledge is a powerful statement. Would you ask the SATP supporters to share the pledge and the above website with their doctors, and Tea party groups around the nation to ask the same of doctors in other states to take the pledge. I don't know what our contacts are with the other Tea Parties and 912 groups are, but if you have that info, please let me know.
  • A HOT Message from Jon Kaplan:
Would you help me get the widest distribution possible in the quickest way possible particularly to the states of the swing vote Senators regarding the Health Care Bill?

The link to the Health Care Christmas Carol You Tube is as follow:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBNKzJ_UMA8.

  • Nullification - Another Suggested Strategy  - There is a lot of discussion on the idea of using the Tenth Amendment as the basis for "nullifying" the Health Care Takeover (and other extra-Constitutional nonsense) within the State of Texas.  See the idea HERE, at the SATP's Official Site
  • UPDATE to the Updated Update!  (Still posted at Jon Kaplan's request):  As many of you may know already, Constitutional Lawyer, Richard Clayton Trotter, who has spoken to the San Antonio Tea Party(SATP) and is sympathetic to our views, is running for Congress in the 20th Congressional District as a Republican. To get on the ballot, Clayton needs to get 500 signatures of constituents living in CD 20 who say that they are going to vote in the Republican primary and want to see Clayton Trotter on the ballot. You don't have to actually vote in the Republican Party primary, but you would not make a statement such as this if you knew you were going to vote in the Democratic Party primary. This is not a vote for Mr. Trotter, though he is a good man with a good background. This simply gives the man a chance to get on the ballot. The voters in the primaries and in the general election will make the ultimate choice. The SATP takes the position that having many qualified candidates for offices is in the public interest and DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN ENDORSEMENT OF ANY GIVEN CANDIDATE BY THE SATP.

The deadline to achieve this is January 3. Since time is short, I am attaching Clayton's resume and the Petition form that constituents must sign must be printed on legal (i.e. 81/2″x11″) paper can be 8 1/2 x 14 (legal) or 8 1/2 x 11 (letter) sized paper. If constituents don't know ID their date of birth will do  People signing it MUST live in the district and commit to vote in the Republican primary - more information on the SATP page for local candidates and events, here.   If you are the Circulator of the Petition, after you have completed as many forms as you need, please have your name notarized as Circulator and return the Petition to Jon Kaplan(846-8076) or Tom Kennedy(363-5063). If you do not circulate, just fill out the form, sign, and return to Jon or Tom. The following is a link to the CD 20 map: www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?.state=TX&district=20,
